How do you turn a movie into a hit even before it comes out? Before Disney launched John Carter in Malaysia, they were worried that the character was not well known in this part of the world. So we created an idea that would immerse audiences into the world of John Carter and get them excited for the movie.
We enticed users to find out which alien race in the movie best reflects their personality. We developed an app using 3D QR tag technology that scanned their posts and comments on social media to find a fit. Users are then invited to join their alien clan and battle it out to recruit other users to become the most powerful clan. In this way, users learned about the characters and became invested in the story-line. The result was an impressive participation rate which ultimately led to huge box office sales!
